1way Driving School FAQ’s

If you don’t see your question here feel free to use the comment box, you’ll get an answer even if your not learning to drive with us.

How can I find out more info about your driving school?
You can look at the 1way Driving School Friends page or the 1way Driving School fan page these two pages contain a lot of correspondence with past and present pupils.

Why should I pick your school over one of the big national schools?
As a small local Driving School we do not have the resources to shower £££’s on fancy advertising campaigns so we have to build our business on trust, excellent pass rates and building a rapport with the existing and past pupils, this equals a more personal and effective service. 90% of our work comes from referrals due to our excellent reputation.

What do I need to start lessons?
A Provisional licence and the ability to read a standard number plate at 20.5 metres (approx 6 car lengths). If glasses are required to do this, then they must be worn whilst driving. Eyesight restrictions info.

How and when can I apply for a provisional?
You can apply up to three months before your 17th birthday or three months before your 16th birthday if you are registered disabled. If you are over 17 then you can apply immediately, visit here to apply for a provisional licence.

I have lost the counterpart of my licence, How do I get another?
Your Driving Instructor will need to see a valid photo card before any driving lessons can commence, you’ll need both parts (photo and counterpart) to sit the theory and practical tests.  Replacements can be applied for online at the DVLA website.  The D.S.A have a strict policy of not starting a test, theory or practical without producing both parts of the licence.

How and when do I book my theory test?
Start learning the theory straight away, the higher knowledge the better driver you will be. Also the Practical Test can not be booked until the theory test is passed. Click here to book the Theory test and for more info on the test visit the Government theory site or to book by phone: 0300 200 1122.

Some free theory resources:
Free Highway code
Official Know Your Signs
Learner’s sites: 2pass
Free Theory Tests: TopTests

What is the link for booking the practical test?
To make sure you don’t get overcharged only use the official test booking website.

What is the cost of the provisional and the test fees?
Provisional Licence is £50, Theory Test is £31 and Practical Test is £62. Correct December 2013.

What car do you use?
The multi award winning new Ford Fiesta, our cars will never be older than 18 months. More info: The Ford Fiesta Website

What hours can I book my lessons?
Lessons can be taken 8am until 8pm Monday to Friday and 8am until 3pm Saturday and Sunday.

What area’s do you cover?
If you plan on taking a practical test at Wakefield or Heckmondwike test centres then we cover it.

What if I have a license from another country?
This is a hard one to cover in a sentence; it is different country to country and is subject to changes. Latest info for foreign licences.
